Solo exhibition A powerful source - Een krachtige bron. Gabriela Acha. Pulchri Studio, The Hague, The Netherlands. July 2024.
A Powerful Source, a solo exhibition by artist Gabriela Acha presented at Pulchri Studio, is articulated as a multifocal exploration of the concept of aura, understood not only as an aesthetic quality but also as a historical, religious, and epistemological phenomenon. The exhibition unfolds a web of perspectives that converse with one another, proposing an expanded reading of what we commonly associate with presence, energy, and the authenticity of an artwork.
From the religious and devotional sphere, Acha investigates the symbolic construction of the aura as it relates to faith (Artist’s Relic series). In parallel, a more poetic–artistic line traces sensitive approaches in which the aura manifests materially (Livistona and Monte-stone series).
The artist also incorporates a critical reflection from within the field of art, revisiting Walter Benjamin’s well-known notion of the aura.
Finally, a scientific, rigorous, and experimental perspective introduces methods drawn from nature and electronics to examine how certain material or symbolic “emanations” are constructed, measured, or detected, shifting the idea of aura toward hybrid territories (Fulgurite and Aura series).
The following documentary videos expand these conceptual layers, offering detailed information about each work and proposing to the viewer a journey in which intuition, theory, and method coexist within the same field of forces.
